Genesis 1 [KJV]
1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
Basically, the first five verses is the 1st and 2nd day of creation and God made the light which are the sun and moon and the stars to illuminate the earth.

V1 - 1st day God created heavenly bodies or the stars and other solar systems (heaven) and earth - explain on verse 2
V2 - earth has no form it is filled with darkness and water. V2 also shows that the Spirit of God or the Holy Spirit is moving on top of the earth which was covered with water before. By default, Earth is made from water, land and only darkness.
V3 - since there is no light present and earth is filled with darkness, God created the light. Most likely the light is the sun and moon as explained in v4.
v4 - God made NOT all parts of the earth night which means while some part it is day the other part is night.
v5 - God called the light Day and darkness Night. First Day and Night is called first day.
